Padley Gorge is one of our favourite spots in the Peak District, located between the villages of Grindleford and Hathersage. The dramatic landscape of the gorge has been shaped over centuries by the Burbage Brook, which winds its way through the valley, creating waterfalls, pools, and a tranquil atmosphere. Every time we make a visit, we are blown away but just how beautiful and varied the area is.
Here’s why you should visit:
🌳 Ancient Woodlands – The gorge is home to stunning oak and birch woodlands, with trees that have stood for hundreds of years. Their gnarled, twisted trunks and vibrant moss-covered branches make for a magical scene.
🌊 Beautiful Waterfalls & Streams – The gentle yet lively Burbage Brook flows through the gorge, creating small cascades and pools that add to the peaceful soundtrack of nature.
📸 Incredible Scenery – Whether it’s the golden light of autumn, the fresh greens of spring, or the frost-covered branches of winter, Padley Gorge offers stunning photo opportunities year-round.
🐦 Wildlife Haven – Keep an eye out for dippers and wagtails flitting along the stream, as well as deer and foxes in the surrounding woodland.
🌿 Perfect for a Walk & Picnic – The gorge offers a range of walking routes, from easy strolls to more adventurous hikes. It’s also a fantastic spot for a picnic by the water.
